The ATO have developed a new initiative to help non-profit organisations understand their tax obligations and entitlement to tax concessions.

Over the next few months, the ATO will be calling a selection of organisations that recently obtained an Australian business number (ABN) and indicated on the ABN application they are non-profit. The calls will be limited to non-profit organisations that do not use the services of a tax agent so they can support those more likely to require our assistance.

During the calls, the ATO will discuss key areas such as non-profit status, income tax exemption, deductible gift recipient status, goods and services tax (GST) obligations and concessions and employer obligations.
